Goa, 24th November 2022: BHONSLE filmmaker Devashish Makhija’s next feature starring Manoj Bajpayee, JORAM is selected for the FBR section of the Viewing Room at NFDC Film Bazaar, 2022. The selected projects get a chance to pitch their films at NFDC Film Bazaar.

It’s also the maiden film of Makhijafilm, an Indian production house launched a year ago by Devashish Makhija and Anupama Bose. The film is written & directed by Makhija and produced jointly with Zee Studios. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Zeeshan Ayyub, Smita Tambe, Megha Mathur, Tannishtha Chatterjee (Special Appearance) and Rajshri Deshpande (Guest Appearance)

Apart from producing JORAM, Makhijafilm has also supported three projects with gap financing, festivals, sales and distribution. The three projects are in the Viewing Room section of the Bazaar and KUNDE is also in FBR.

  1. Parth Saurabh’s debut fiction feature POKHAR KE DUNU PAAR (winner Special Mention, San Sebastian, in VR)
  2. Surya Balakrishnan’s documentary AMARKATHA (Environment, in VR)
  3. Ayappa K.M.’s KUNDE (Ethnographic, also inFBR)

Friends I Well Wishers I the Village

The film production house based in Mumbai has mentors in Anurag Kashyap and Alan McAlex.

Alongwith the above, filmmakers Sriram Raghavan, Vikramaditya Motwane and producer Sanjay Routray have extended support too.

The production house has collaborated with the editor Abhro Banerjee, IPR lawyer, Abhishek Malhotra (TMT Law Practice), Sidharth Meer (Bridge Postworks), Music Composer Mangesh Dhakde and Mauli Singh (Loudspeaker Media).

Discussing these collaborations and the bouquet of films along with their own home production JORAM that Makhijafilm is representing at the Bazaar, Producer & Makhijafilm Partner Anupama Bose believes that ’it takes a village to bring up a child. It takes a Village of Creators and Conscious Viewers / Patrons to make a film…wherein ‘make’ is inclusive of creating the cinematic work and then enabling it to find its audiences & niches. The biggest example for us in our context is Zee Studios which is our producing partner on such an Indie spirited film – we share our intention of retaining the creative vision and the conscience of the film – they are enabling us to fly with film festivals and eventually a sales and release journey.”

JORAM Director & Partner, Makhijafilm, Devashish Makhija, speaking about the film, further elaborates, “It is with a fiercely indie spirit that JORAM has been made… the films that Makhijafilm seeks to collaborate with and support will also be films that have a beating Indie heart, and a spirit of community in their making, even if they may be backed by a studio as visionary and diverse in its choices as Zee Studios. ‘JORAM’ itself is a survival thriller – in which a father is desperately on the run with his three month old baby girl – set against the giant canvas of displacement, iron ore mining, development and the environment.”

Speaking about their collaboration with Makhijafilm, Shariq Patel – the CBO, Zee Studios said, “I have been a fan of Dev’s work for the longest time. So when he decided to turn Producer with Joram and got us this script, we grabbed it pretty much immediately. And it has been a great journey so far and we can’t wait to take this film across festivals, across the world.”
