Women Empowerment in India

I, Prachi Agarwal, am a self taught artist from Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. “Creativity is limitless and so are the opportunities; only if you find your focus and give heart to it.” As a Financial Analyst , I never felt satisfied internally. I was always looking for something much more creative and innovative. My heart always had an itch for all the artsy stuff. So, after getting an opportunity during lockdown, I unleashed the suppressed artist in me and embarked on the creative journey of an artist.

Now, I have just dived into the ocean of creativity. I started painting Ceramic Plates, making polymer clay customized mugs, Miniatures, Mandalas, and creating different mediums of artworks i.e. Watercolor, Gauche, Acrylic, Oil paintings and Inking Sketching.

I started painting as a meditation but now I am so dealvt into it that it has become my full time work. I thoroughly enjoy creating new artworks everyday. I work as an artist for a multinational Clothing brand and I teach Art & Craft through online classes. The appreciation and feedbacks from the experts around the globe is keeping me motivated.

Being brought up in a middle class family, I have seen a lot of problems are being faced by women everyday. Through my Inking Illustrations on Women, I am trying to spread awareness in the society for Women Empowerment in India.

“Empowerment of women leads to development of a good family, good society and, ultimately a good nation. ” said Dr. Kalam on the issue of Women Empowerment. Women play a very significant role in the overall development of any society. But what is ironic is that despite her equal share in the human development she remains at the mercy of men at least in our part of the world.

Women in India continue to face atrocities such as rape, acid throwing, dowry killing, and prostitution of young girls. Recent cases include Hathras gang rape, Nirbhaya. Further, around 70% of women in India are victims of Domestic violence, according to a former Union Minister for Women and Child Development. Biggest form of it is “Emotional Abuse” which can erode a woman’s sense of self worth and can be incredibly harmful to overall mental and physical wellbeing. It includes harassment, threats, verbal abuse such as name-calling, degradation, blaming, stalking, isolation.

This state of affairs exists even when the Constitution of India guarantees to all Indian women equality (Article 14), no discrimination by State (Article 15(1)), equality of opportunity (Article 16), and equal pay for equal work (Article 39(d)). It addition, it renounces practices derogatory to the dignity of women (Article 51(A)(e)), and also allows securing just and humane conditions of work and for maternity relief(Article 42).

This is the time we own up to ourselves. We stand by each other, tall and proud, brave and unfazed. This is the time we own up to India. No more Harassment. We want what we deserve – for us and for our daughters – a safer India for women.

In a nutshell, every women has some hidden talent in her and if given right education and right platform, she would not leave any stone unturned to fulfill her dreams. I am very grateful to the esteemed organisation “ArtPalettesbyTanu” which is providing a great platform to the emerging artists like me to showcase their talent in Artworks. I am thankful to a beautiful and talented Artist TanuShree behind this organisation who is dedicated and committed to help the artists across the world. It has given me an opportunity to express myself among the huge audience. I pray for its growth and prosperity in the future and hope it reaches to the zenith of glory.
