Bringing smile to childless couples is a great service to the humanity: Dr. Anu Agarwal

Varanasi: In India where ‘in vitro fertilization’ (IVF) is gaining ground, a dedicated gynecologist and IVF expert Dr. Anu Agrawal has established a world class IVF and Test Tube Baby Centre in the temple town Varanasi to bring smile to the childless couples.

“Infertility is a social stigma in India, and a childless couple particularly woman has to bear the brunt.  My sole ambition is to help the poorest childless couples in getting babies and bringing smile to them,” says Dr. Agarwal, the director of Vansh Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre, a fully equipped IVF centre in the city.

To fulfil her ambition, she has established a world class IVF centre supported with all latest technologies. There is also a need to make people fully aware about the IVF and assisted reproduction. The IVF is a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body, in vitro (“in glass”). The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from the woman’s ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a liquid in a laboratory. After the fertilised egg (zygote) undergoes embryo culture for 2–6 days, it is implanted in woman’s uterus, with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.

The IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology used for infertility treatment and gestational surrogacy. A fertilised egg may be implanted into a surrogate’s uterus, and the resulting child is genetically unrelated to the surrogate. The IVF may be used to overcome female infertility when it is due to problems with the fallopian tubes, making in vivo fertilisation difficult. It can also assist in male infertility, in those cases where there is a defect in sperm quality; in such situations intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used, where a sperm cell is injected directly into the egg cell. This is used when sperm has difficulty penetrating the egg. ICSI is also used when sperm numbers are very low. I can proudly say that our Vansh Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre is a brand now with all latest machines and equipment. It is our accuracy that makes us different from others”, she says adding, “Currently our success result is 70%, but we aim to make it 100% in future”.

In Eastern part of UP the genital koch’s in women is very common that causes difficulty in pregnancy. Surrogacy is an option for such women. “We also do PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for the patients who have thin lining of uterus”, says Dr. Agarwal. The PRP is a blood product with a high platelet level. PRP can stimulate the development of new tissue, making the uterine lining grow thicker in women with thin uterine linings. PRP as a “fertility treatment” can help infertile women who have scarring from miscarriages or thin uterine linings. PRP can stimulate the development of new tissue, making the uterine lining grow thicker in women with thin uterine linings.

“We are also doing fertility preservation also,” she says adding fertility preservation is the process of saving or protecting eggs, sperm, or gonadal tissue so that a person can use them to have biological children in the future. Fertility preservation is the effort to help cancer patients retain their fertility, or ability to procreate. “We also offer Sperm vitrification to male suffering from cancer,” she says and adds that human sperm vitrification is a novel method of sperm freezing which achieves cryopreservation due to ultra-rapid cooling rates that prevent ice-crystal formation. Fertility Preservation is also a good option female suffering from recurrent endometriosis and adenomyosis.

“We are also working on an upcoming branch -the holistic approach to IVF,” she says. Holistic fertility treatment aims to properly balance the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental aspects of one’s life to aid in natural fertility or fertility treatments. The primary methods used to achieve holistic fertility are acupuncture, meditation, yoga, dietary adjustments, weight loss and stress management. “We arrange counselling and classes of yoga for the patients, and they are getting good results of this holistic approach,” she adds. Though she is satisfied with her works and achievements, she wants to do more and help more and more childless couples.
